What is a check up?

A check-up is a periodic general examination of people who feel healthy because they have no symptoms or disorders. This health check-up is therefore a periodic preventive examination aimed above all at the early detection of diseases that were previously asymptomatic.
Screening tests can be part of the check-up. This involves carrying out an appropriate examination using specific tests on people with certain risk characteristics.


The check-up includes a medical history, clinical examinations, laboratory tests and other instrumental examinations. The tests to be carried out depend, among other things, on the patient’s personal history, family history and individual risk factors. The basic programme should be completed as required (see the list of check-ups in chapter 1 and the following chapters).
